Green Energy Network is a community based ethanol collective based in Sebastopol. If you live or work in Sonoma or Marin County, consider joining our user group. We are currently working on expanding the locations where our members may access the fuel - so any information regarding potential depot locations would be appreciated.

Pricing:

  • The price and availability of ethanol may vary throughout the year.
    • Curent price for GEN Members... $4.00/gallon

  • All members are required to sign our membership agreement, pay $20, and to attend an orientation. Are you ready to reduce your dependance on fossil fuels?

Technical Requirements:

  • Got FFV? Flexible fuel vehicles are warrented for E85 (85% ethanol, 15% regular gasoline). Your car may even be an FFV and you don't even know it. See our list of common FFVs for more info. And did you know there are almost as many FFVs in the US as there are passenger deisel vehicles?
  • We have found that any vehicle that runs on gasoline may safely use E25.
  • In fact, many gas vehicles may use up to E50.
  • Older vehicles that are carburated (non fuel injection) will need to have the fuel lines replaced with newer material when using ethanol.
  • Many fuel injected vehicles may be converted with a simple device for about $400. See our conversion page for more info.

GEN AlertsFactoids:

  • Ethanol (aka alcohol) is most commonly 200 proof alcohol made from corn. Gasoline is blended into the fuel in order to avoid the alcohol beverage taxes and to make the fuel more compatible with today's engines.
  • Our bio-ethanol is made from waste beverages in Sonoma County and California.
  • Our bio-ethanol has net zero greenhouse emmissions.
  • Ethanol is nontoxic and burns very clean.
  • Since alcohol burns at lower temperatures, it doubles the life of your engine.
  • Even 5 or 10% of ethanol blended with gasoline improves emmissions and increases acceleration and power.
  • High blends of ethanol (over 50%) can reduce fuel mileage as much as 10-20%.
  • There is still only one retail fuel station in California which offers E85 at the pump.
